Hi Chris,

You mentioned that I might use a recommended reducing formula to thin my cut pail, can you suggest one? And what is the purpose of thinning the cut in pail? Will it make a difference when you roll the wall paint to match the cut line,am I making any sense here.

2. You suggest on your site to spray the windows with 3 coats and you buff the final coat, what do you buff this with?

3. One we apply the primer to the drywall do we sand before painting our first coat and if so what grit sand paper would you suggest.

Sorry for all of the questions ,but I want to make sure we do this right.

We lost our home in Hurricane Rita and we are fighting with the Ins.Co to pay, so we are on a tight budget so I want to do this right the first time around.

Thanks Carryl

If I'm using a thicker paint, like BM, I usually thin the paint for the brushing.

Why?

Even for a pro, brushing on thick paint (making smooth lines etc,) is difficult, slower and usually leaves more of an edge of the brushed area. To avoid this, I thin my cut a bit so it flows better, drys longer (wet edge) and smoother. I always feather out the brushed edge too. And, always go in one direction (brush back forth and then always end the final stroke going one way throughout the span being painted. When you roll after the cut, you shouldn't see your brushing areas. The rolling covers and blends in better this way. The walls should look great!

I use floetrol or water for latex and paint thinner for alkyd. google floetrol to learn more.

I don't always do this. That method is for very fussy, larger projects. However, I do this if I am working with latex and have the opportunity to use my sprayer. I use a angle grinder style car polisher and a wool buffing pad.

My steps are:
I clean the house well.
Sweep excess dust off the walls (air blasting works awesome) while sucking the air out of the house with fan, vaccuum or wind coming through the home).
Priming is everything. Roll the primer on making sure you cover your drywall / unpainted area's. Let dry well and sand the walls everywhere right to the edge of all corners (including... where your brush will touch (smooth walls and corners are easier to brush and roll!... paint flows better when those area's are smooth). Good prep save time in the end.

I use a poll sander with 120 to 180 grit and a sanding sponge for the tight area's and casings etc.

Very sorry for your loss. I'm very happy to help this way. Hope my info makes sense.
