What type of spackling compound do you think is the best for minor repairs? Also what steps do you take to be sure repairs do not flash through the new paint.
I have used tinted primer over larger repairs and have had no flashing problems. On smaller repairs I usually just hit those spots with some wall paint applied with a brush prior to rolling the wall. |

I like DAP Drydex. It sands easy and shrink almost nil . Its a smooth, dense spackle that goes on pink, drys white. The pink part means next to nothing for me however, is has its points. Its an excellent product.
I always spot prime patches, small or large. I don't get flashing this way. I may also reduce my primer so it soaks in deeper. If the patches are significant, I prime and then may go over them with the finish coat paint to assure it all blends. I also sand the primer. I believe some flashing is caused from brush sheen.
I use a brush or roller to apply primer and, always roll spot primes out so you don't see brush lines or edges. I take extra time on long walls facing windows or certain lighting.
What do you use? Also, what paint brand do you prefer? |

I have been using DAP vinyl spackling. The results have been good with it but it takes awhile to dry. If the job I am doing is small, one or two rooms, I am usually waiting on the spackling to dry before I can sand and start putting the paint on.
Sherwin Williams and Duron are the paints I use. For interiors I have used mostly Cashmere from SW. Duron makes a similar product called Signature Select which I have used also. |

I use Benjamin Moore Top Line "Collection" in Canada. I never get flashing with this paint. Other brands just don't cut it for me. I find most brands, including SW, barely pass past flat.
BM is expensive but worth every penny.
I have used a heat gun, or halogon work lights to help dry oil, patches etc. |
