When painting honey oak cabinets white, I take extra steps to fill all the cracks in the wood.
First you need to clean out the dust and gunk in seams and joints, make sure you get primer inside those seams with a brush, let dry and then use high grade caulking to seal it all.
I push my finger into the caulking so it goes in deep and is smooth (and clean looking) . This process reduces less chance of caulking working it’s way out down the years.
After 24 hours drying... I spray a second coat of primer over the entire door so it seals the caulking in, holds it firmer and flashes less on the finish coat.
