Oak cabinet painting - preparation

Removing Crud

Seeing this kind of crud on older oak kitchen cabinets is common. Removing it however, is a challenge.  Crud must be removed before painting and to do this, we start with razor scrapers.

Here is a sneak peak of our next oak kitchen that will be painted white. The bulk of our work starts with scraping old grease to get down to the clean wood. We chuckle when we read how people say you don’t need to sand before painting.

If we didn’t sand these beautiful old oak cabinet paint would never stick and the finish would never look like it does when you sand and clean wood.
