Interior designers prefer darker neutral colors for kitchen islands. Black, gray and blue are quite popular. Of course, the same coloured kitchen island is almost always a safe bet!

Two-tone Cabinets - Choose two different colours?
People often ask us if they can have two different colours (two-tone cabinets). Example: a darker colour for the uppers, lowers or kitchen island and the answer is... Absolutely!
Single color kitchen are the most common and they are a good choice if blended in with the rest of the kitchen. However, two-tone kitchen cabinets can be more attractive and make a great visual impact.
Paint upper or main cabinets in a light shade and a deeper colour on the lowers or island to give a distinct separation between the two.
