Cabinet paint is no different from any other type of paint. All paint will chip if you hit it.
Fact: Paint chips less when old stain and varnish have been sanded down to clean wood.
The better you sand kitchen cabinets, the better any paint will bond. The better the bond the less chance paint will chip or scratch off. See acrylic vs lacquer
Preventing paint from chipping is less about the paint, although the product you choose is still very important, however, even the poorest paint will stick if a surface has been prepped properly.
Before you painting kitchen cabinets, sand everything well and your finish will stick like glue.
If cabinet paint chips or peels off easily, it's because they weren't sanded properly in the first place.
See Scratch Test
Note: Once cabinets have been poorly painted it will cost more money to fix them than it’s likely worth.
PAINTING Guys use Benjamin Moore Acrylic paint on all kitchen cabinets. This paint is extremely durable and our cabinets look amazing. Should the unfortunate happen, a little dab of paint on a Q-Tip may be all you need to patch a chip.
