Paint

A coating including resin, a solvent, additives, pigments and, in some products, a diluent. Paints are generally opaque, and commonly represent the portion of the industry known as "architectural coatings."

What is Paint

Paint is a substance used to protect, colour, or provide texture to surfaces. It is composed of four main components:

Pigment: Provides colour and opacity. Pigments can be organic, inorganic, or metallic.

Binder: Acts as a glue to hold the pigment particles together and adhere them to the surface. Common binders include latex, acrylic, and alkyd.

Solvent: Thins the paint for easier application. It evaporates as the paint dries, leaving behind the pigment and binder. Water and oil are common solvents.

Additives: Enhance the properties of the paint, such as improving drying time, resistance to mold, and flow.

Different types of paint are used for various applications, such as latex paint for walls and ceilings, oil-based paint for trim and doors, and specialty paints for specific surfaces like metal or concrete.
