Why Hire PAINTING Guys?
Cracking and peeling paint may happen if you hire painters that don't know how to paint and refinish kitchen cabinets.
Once cabinets are ruined like this, fixing them can cost more money than it's worth.
Example 1
- These cabinets were poorly prepped;
- The painter used cheap caulking that shrunk;
- The painter never allowed the primer or paint to cure long enough between coats;
- The painter used an oil-based primer over an acrylic top coat which cures at different speeds. This causes the coatings to separate.
According to the homeowner, these cabinets looked good for the first few months but as time went on they started cracking.
Example 2
Brittle composite paint cracking, peeling and chipping around joints & seams.
According to the homeowner of these cabinets, they started peeling and chipping like this 6 months after installation. They complained to the home builder but the home builder said it was the cabinet painter's problem and not their responsibility. The cabinet company is no longer in business. Clients had no recourse.
To our assessment:
- These cabinets were not primed properly and the composite mixture was wrong;
- Composite solid colours are never as nice looking as acrylic paint.
Before you hire someone to paint your kitchen cabinets ask these questions:
- Are the cabinet painters going to sand and fix dents?
- Are the painters going to spray or roll and if so, where are they spraying? Hopefully not an on-site spray booth in your kitchen. Spraying kitchen cabinets in homes is not a good idea for many reasons which we talk about throughout our website.
- Are they planning to caulk seams and allow time for everything to cure?
- Are they using degreasers instead of sanding? If so, degreasers never work as a substitute for sanding and in fact, they are problematic to primer.
- If a kitchen cabinet painting company says they paint kitchen cabinets in a few days you should likely run. Fast cabinet painting is a way for companies to make money targeting the house flippers market.
Unless you are not in a big hurry, the average time it takes to paint cabinets properly (start to finish) is usually around 10 days.
When you hire the PAINTING Guys... you can continue using your kitchen during the entire process and you don't even need to empty your cupboards.
