Should new countertops be installed before or after painting?

In most cases, new countertops can be installed before or after but it’s important installers hold off on applying any silicon where new paint will be applied. Paint does not stick to silicon!

NOTE: We can remove silicon but it’s time-consuming which adds to labor costs.

If you are changing countertops before painting, installers should not apply Silicon anywhere wood will be painted.

Why?

  • The paint does not stick to silicon.
  • Silicon removal is tedious and problematic for kitchen cabinet painting. Any silicon touching wood should only be applied after painting.
